Porlock is finally getting speedy data

6th November 2017

4G is now widespread on every UK network, but some places are still having to make do without, and the Somerset village of Porlock is one of them. But not for long, as O2 has revealed that it is starting upgrade work there to bring 4G to the area.

According to Somerset Live, the work will begin the week commencing November 6th – also known as next week.

Then, subject to successful implementation and testing, O2 customers in the area should start getting a 4G signal in the following weeks.

That upgrade should be a big boon to users, as they’ll be able to work remotely, stream high resolution video, download apps, games and music quickly, and do all those other things that previously required a Wi-Fi connection.

And that’s not all, as O2 is also taking the opportunity to improve its 2G and 3G network in the area.

This follows recent upgrade work across dozens of areas in Norfolk and hundreds of Scottish locations, and is part of the roughly £2 million O2 spends every day on improving its network across the UK.

Currently it offers 4G in 15,700 towns, cities and villages across the UK, and that figure is growing all the time.

Not on O2? Well, you might out of luck in Porlock then, but we expect other networks will bring 4G there before too long, as EE, Three and Vodafone are all working hard to increase their 4G coverage as well.

In fact, Vodafone’s coverage checker claims that 4G upgrade work is planned in the area soon, so before long Porlock’s data speeds could go from slow to fast on a range of networks.
