SIM Only contracts have a number of advantages. For one thing, they’re cheaper than getting a contract that includes a new phone. They’re also almost always shorter term, generally coming in at either 30 day rolling contracts or 12 months, so you have more freedom and flexibility to change your tariff.
SIM Only contracts are also ideal if you’re happy to keep your current phone – or want to buy a new one outright rather than paying for it monthly.
Depending on what phone you have you might need a standard SIM (mostly used by older handsets), a micro SIM (used by many handsets made in the last few years), or a nano SIM (used by many of the newest handsets).
To be sure, you’ll have to check your handset, but the good news is that many networks supply a trio or combi SIM, which includes all three sizes. And if you ever change phone and need a different size SIM card you can either request one from your network or use an adaptor.
Although you’re not always tied in for long on a SIM Only contract, it’s still preferable to choose the right network first time round, and beyond costs you may want to consider their coverage
