Virgin Mobile is one of the cheapest networks around, but it’s also a high-quality network, as it runs on O2’s infrastructure, meaning it’s got almost 100% UK population coverage for 4G as well as rapidly expanding 5G coverage.
In fact, at the time of writing Virgin Mobile is in the process of moving customers to O2 plans – so you won’t just get O2’s coverage, there are also O2-exclusive perks available, like access to O2 Priority (more on which below).
Plus, all of its SIM-only plans are just 1 month long, giving you more flexibility than a 12-month or 24-month plan.
The extras you’ll get depend on whether you’ve been moved to an O2 plan or whether you’re still on one of Virgin Mobile’s own plans, but in either case there’s a lot of good stuff.
The highlight of O2’s plans – which all Virgin Mobile customers will eventually be moved to – is O2 Priority, which gives you discounts, freebies, priority tickets, and more.
Virgin Mobile plans meanwhile give you data rollover, meaning that if you don’t use all of your data one month the remainder will be added to the next month, making it even better value than most rival networks.
Plus, you can use WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook Messenger as much as you want without their use being counted against your data – which also means if you run out of data you can still talk online.
You can also get plans with unlimited data, so you don’t need to worry about running out.
Virgin Mobile lets you roam for free in 43 destinations across the EU, so you won’t pay any extra.
Virgin Mobile allows you to tether, so you can use your data to get other devices online when Wi-Fi isn’t an option.
Switching your number across to Virgin Mobile usually takes just one working day once you’ve signed up to Virgin Mobile and got a temporary number.
All you need to do is request your PAC code from your old provider (by texting ‘PAC’ and your date of birth (in the format DD/MM/YYYY) from your old SIM to 65075), then either give Virgin Mobile your PAC code while placing your order, or if you already have your Virgin SIM you can head to ‘Switching’ then ‘Use PAC’ in your online Virgin Mobile account.
Virgin Mobile will send you a SIM card that can be turned into a standard, micro or nano SIM just by popping out the right section, so you’re guaranteed to get the right size.
