O2 has given both 4G and 5G a major boost in Coventry

22nd July 2025

Coventry Cathedral

As part of its ongoing network upgrade work, O2 has revealed that in the last 12 months, it has upgraded its network capacity across both 4G and 5G at over 2,000 postcodes in Coventry.

So that should make for a significant performance boost in Coventry, whether you’re using 5G or older 4G technology.

Still, the network’s 5G coverage in Coventry remains far from perfect, with O2’s own coverage checker reporting good outdoor coverage but only limited 5G coverage indoors. So it seems there’s still more work to be done.

Part of a bigger plan

This latest upgrade work was part of O2’s Mobile Transformation Plan, which will result in an investment of around £700 million into its network this year alone, with the goal of keeping it fit for the future and keeping up with increasing customer demand.

So while O2 has highlighted this work in Coventry, this is just one of many areas that will have been upgraded in the last year. Indeed, the network also recently stated that it had upgraded its network capacity at over 3,000 postcodes in Glasgow in the last year, and in over 13,000 postcodes across Scotland as a whole.

Many other areas are also sure to see network improvements over the rest of 2025, so if you’re on O2 and your network performance feels lacking, it might get better before long.

Of course, O2 isn’t alone in doing this – Three, EE, and Vodafone are all investing heavily in their networks too, with the goal of boosting 4G and 5G coverage, and in most cases also rolling out 5G Standalone, which is faster than the Non-Standalone 5G we currently have access to in most places.
