Vodafone 4G has hit its 600th community, with Chester being the lucky city in question. Residents should already be starting to see the fruits of Vodafone’s labour, with faster mobile data now available.

The Chester Chronicle notes that the arrival of 4G in the city will allow users to connect to the internet more quickly, more reliably and in more places, while business users will be able to improve their productivity as they can now more easily work remotely or on the move.

The upgrade in Chester is just the latest in a massive drive to bring Vodafone 4G to as much of the UK as possible, with Cleethorpes and Bishop’s Cleeve among other recently upgraded areas.

It’s not just the UK that Vodafone is focused on either, as we also recently reported on it bringing 4G roaming to five new countries. In fact Vodafone is spending a whopping £2 billion over 2014 and 2015 on network and service improvements.

As for Chester, Vodafone isn’t alone in having 4G coverage there. EE has a 4G service in the area too and even Three reports partial coverage, leaving just O2 with none.

All four of the major UK networks are pushing for at least 98% 4G population coverage though, so expect coverage to improve in Chester and elsewhere over time.

In total Vodafone currently has around 68% UK population coverage with 4G, so it’s well on its way to 98% and it’s now giving 4G to all pay monthly customers, meaning the only other thing you need is a 4G compatible device.
