EE 4G hits 90% population coverage and 600 towns

EE has a lot to celebrate right now, as it’s just brought 4G to its 600th large town or city, in this case Exmouth in south Devon. But not only that, it’s also brought super speedy 4G to over 6,200 smaller towns and villages and it’s just announced some very impressive interim results for the 6 months ending June 30th.

Among the highlights are the fact that it’s now reached over 90% UK population coverage for 4G and 70% coverage for double speed 4G.

EE 4G customer numbers are up too, with 1.5 million new ones added in quarter 2 alone, bringing the total to 10.9 million and cementing the network’s position as the largest 4G operator in Europe. It’s also the fastest growing 4G network in Europe.

EE also notes that it’s firmly on track to exceeding 14 million customers by the end of the year and that almost 50% of its current contract customers are on double speed 4GEE Extra plans.

Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, commented: “Our established leadership in 4G and key differentiators such as Wi-Fi calling are working well for the business. We’re the clear network market leader and this, combined with our strong operational performance, has led to a return to revenue growth while delivering our best ever EBITDA margin.

“The business continues to focus squarely on improving customer satisfaction and on cross-selling our innovative range of consumer and B2B 4G connected products.”

So far the company has had £3 billion of revenue this year, though that’s just a 0.1% rise on last year, with profits of £141 million.

Business is seemingly good in most areas for EE, with a 61% growth in tablets and a 27% growth in mobile Wi-Fi year-on-year, while the impending BT buyout could further strengthen the company.
