The Samsung Galaxy S3 was Samsung’s flagship handset of 2012. It’s since been superseded by the Samsung Galaxy S4 but it’s still a great phone in its own right.

Samsung Galaxy S3
In fact at first glance it looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S4, with the same plastic build and rounded corners. Even the dimensions are very similar, though the Samsung Galaxy S3 is slightly thicker and has a smaller 4.8 inch 720 x 1280 Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 306 pixels per inch. That’s both quite large and quite high resolution, so it’s a good screen all round.
Inside there’s a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM- specs which are hardly top end these days but would still leave many mid-range phones in the dust.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a choice of 16, 32 or 64GB of built in storage, along with a micro SD card slot to boost that by up to 64GB more, so it’s a phone that’s never likely to run short on space.
It has an 8 megapixel camera and can shoot 1080p video at 30fps. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also has a secondary 1.9 megapixel front facing camera.
It runs Android 4.1.2 overlaid with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and has a 2100 mAh battery, which is enough to give it fairly good battery life. The Samsung Galaxy S3 supports 3G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Release Date & Price
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is available now in blue, white, brown, red, black and grey. It can be bought SIM free from around £280, which puts it in competition with phones like the Nokia Lumia 820, the BlackBerry Q5 and the Sony Xperia SP.
On a 24 month contract a 4G version of the handset can be had for free on EE from £41 per month. While O2 have a 4G version available with no upfront fee if you pay at least £47 a month and Vodafone charge from just £34 a month for a 4G ready Samsung Galaxy S3 with no upfront cost.
Alternatively the Samsung Galaxy S3 can be found from around £17 per month free of charge on a 24 month 3G contract. Though for a decent amount of minutes and data you’ll be looking at closer to £30 a month.
