O2 and Vodafone are bringing 4G to Oswestry

5th August 2015

o2-MastShropshire has so far been largely neglected for 4G coverage, but at least one area is now getting an upgrade, with it being confirmed that both O2 and Vodafone will soon offer 4G in Oswestry.

According to the Shropshire Star the two networks have a jointly-owned mast on Oswald Road which will be upgraded to a 4G one.

That will mean replacing the current mast with a slightly larger one, bringing it from 15 metres to 17.5 metres high, but the payoff is that both O2 and Vodafone will be able to switch on 4G in the town.

Work is apparently soon set to begin, so there’s no 4G yet but it should be coming very soon and hopefully the rest of Shropshire won’t be far behind.

Right now neither EE nor Three offer 4G services in the area, so Vodafone or O2 are the networks to be on if you want speedy mobile data in and around Oswestry.

The upgrade will allow users to connect to the net faster and in more places, making it easier to stay in touch and more viable to work, download and stream media on the move.

It’s been a long time coming too, as residents and officials have been calling for improvements in the town’s mobile signal for months. Now all eyes will be on EE and Three to follow in O2 and Vodafone’s footsteps.

But with all the networks having a target of 98% UK population coverage we’re hopeful that Oswestry and Shropshire will get more 4G love soon.
