Dixons Carphone signs multi-year partnership with EE

Not only has Dixons Carphone announced plans to launch an MVNO of its own, but it’s also strengthening its ties with existing UK networks, as following on from new long term agreements with O2 and Vodafone, which were confirmed late last year, Dixons Carphone has now confirmed a new multi-year partnership with EE.

The exact length of the deal hasn’t been confirmed but it puts Dixons Carphone on fairly solid ground, with all the major UK networks other than Three committing to allowing it to sell their contracts and SIM cards.

With the death of Phones 4u, Dixons Carphone is the last major independent high street phone retailer, so it’s good to see it strengthen its ties with the mobile industry, as this latest announcement along with it launching a network of its own suggests it will be around for the foreseeable future.

Graham Stapleton, CEO of Carphone Warehouse UK and Ireland, says: “This long term partnership with EE takes us in to the next decade with a joint focus on the amazing potential of connected technology, building on EE’s industry-leading 4G network and growing presence in the home.

“Creating deeper relationships with our network partners reinforces the ongoing importance of providing customers with independent advice and deals that are personalised to their needs. With the pace of change happening across the industry, we are thrilled that all the major networks value Dixons Carphone’s contribution to their business in the UK. This enables us to continue our ambition to offer customers ever-increasing connectivity options.”

Presumably this partnership will remain intact even if BT buys EE, thus ensuring Dixons Carphone is secured against the sizeable shifts that seem to be coming to UK mobile networks.
