With most large towns and cities now already able to access O2 4G the network is now speedily bringing its 4G service to smaller towns and villages across the UK.
The villages of Codnor in Derbyshire and Wyberton in Lincolnshire are the latest places in line for the upgrade.
Codnor should already be benefiting from O2 4G, with the upgrade work now completed according to the Ripley & Heanor News. That means customers in Codnor can now browse the web from their smartphones at high speeds when out and about. It also allows users to stream music and video and work on the move.
Upgrade work in Wyberton hasn’t yet been completed but it has begun according to the Boston Standard. The 4G network should be live there in the coming weeks subject to successful testing.
Derek McManus, chief operating officer, Telefónica UK said: “O2 customers in Wyberton will soon be able to experience faster mobile internet on their devices such as streaming high definition TV, shopping on the go, and video calling. For our business customers, 4G is all about working more effectively. They can work remotely, access cloud services, collaborate using apps and so on. 4G will make everything easier for them.”
There could be some signal disruption while the upgrade work is carried out. In which case O2 customers are advised to use the O2 TU Go app, which allows you to call and text over Wi-Fi.
Codnor is surprisingly well served for 4G coverage, with EE, Vodafone and Three all providing some level of 4G service, though coverage is patchy.
Wyberton doesn’t fare quite so well, with patchy coverage from EE and Three but none from Vodafone. O2 for its part now has 4G coverage in over 600 large towns and cities, with a commitment to bring it to at least 98% of the UK population by the end of 2017.
