Carphone Warehouse launches iD network with 4G as standard

24th April 2015

iD NetworkNetwork competition is heating up and Carphone Warehouse’s iD network is the latest contender. The network aims to differentiate itself by among other things offering short contracts with more flexibility.

It will offer a range of 12 month contracts, which are a rarity currently, with most networks focussing on 24 month ones. As such customers won’t be tied in for as long and better yet all of its tariffs come with 4G as standard.

The network is launching in May and Carphone Warehouse is yet to reveal its full range of tariffs and data limits, but we can tell you that the first phone it will offer is the Samsung Galaxy A3, which you’ll be able to get with 300 minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB of 4G data on a 12 month plan for £19.50 per month.

Ultimately the network aims to offer all of the phones which Carphone Warehouse currently stocks, so you should have a good selection to choose from.

Another area in which it aims to differentiate itself is in offering free roaming in more locations than any other network. At launch you’ll be able to use your phone in 22 different countries at no extra cost, specifically Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the US.

That’s more than even Three’s Feel at Home service allows and speaking of Three, iD uses Three as its network partner, so where Three has coverage iD has coverage too.

As a 4G network that’s not necessarily a good thing, as with around 48% population coverage Three’s 4G network is less widespread than EE, Vodafone or O2. But it’s growing all the time and aims to ultimately hit 98% of the population.
