4GEE Continues To Surge Ahead

While the launch of O2 and Vodafone’s 4G networks may yet prove troublesome for EE, there’s no hint of it yet, as the network has claimed victory in yet another RootMetrics study.

The study, held recently in Nottingham and the surrounding area, involved over 25,000 mobile performance tests, aiming to see which network out of EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone was the best in the area for mobile internet, call performance, text performance and combined performance.

EE decimated the competition for mobile internet performance, delivering average download speeds of 19Mbps and average upload speeds of 12.6Mbps. That’s enormously faster than Three, which took second place with download speeds of 8Mbps and upload speeds of 1.9Mbps. O2 and Vodafone fell even further behind with O2 managing average download speeds of 3.7Mbps and upload speeds of 1.5Mbps while Vodafone managed download speeds of just 2.4Mbps and uploads of 1.1Mbps.

This amounted to EE receiving a RootScore of 97 (out of 100), while Three got 81; O2 came away with 65 and Vodafone just 41.

EE also came out on top for text performance, though not by much, with an overall score of 96, while all three competitors scored 94. Those scores took into account both how long texts took to send and how many failed to send.

For call performance EE drew with Three, as the two networks received scores of 91 and 92 respectively. O2 and Vodafone were just behind with scores of 88 each. These scores were based on how many dropped calls each network experienced and how often each network was unable to place a call.

As you’d expect, EE also won the combined performance category, which factored everything in to give EE an overall score of 94, while Three received a respectable 88, O2 came away with 78 and Vodafone was last with 68.

This latest test follows numerous other tests conducted in major cities across the UK, with EE coming out on top in every single recent test. Obviously being the only network with 4G has helped and is an advantage which will soon be gone, but that doesn’t explain the brilliant scores received for texts and calls.

With the other networks finally launching 4G it will be interesting to see if EE can continue to win RootMetrics tests over the next year or two, but for now EE is the network to beat.
