4G Mobile Operator Sponsors the BAFTA Film Awards

15th November 2012

EE will be the title sponsor of the British Academy Film Awards which will be hosted by Stephen Fry on Sunday, the 10th February, 2013. EE ( which owns Orange and T-Mobile ) are the only 4G Mobile Operator in the UK and currently has a huge newspaper, radio, on-line and TV marketing campaign to promote the fact that it has launched its 4G mobile service and that it is offering 4G downloads speeds around five times greater than current 3G networks can offer.

EE have recently produced a new YouTube video featuring the Labrador “Fenton” which aims to demonstrate how easy it is to watch a HD YouTube movie and full HD movies on your 4G phone or 4G tablet. We here at 4G.co.uk see the sponsorship of the BAFTAs as another move by EE to promote this capability. The brand-name for EE’s 4G mobile service is 4GEE and we expect you may have seen this splattered all over the place recently.

Orange has previously sponsored the BAFTAs and supported a publicly voted award within the BAFTAs called “Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award”. This will now be called the “EE Rising Star Award” and the award is given to an exceptional young person in the film industry. Last years “Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award award was won by Adam Deacon who has starred in Kidulthood, Adulthood and crime thriller 4.3.2.1.

Brand Director, Spencer McHugh, said: ”BAFTA is one of our most treasured and collaborative brand partnerships, and we are excited to announce it as the first sponsorship property for the EE brand – continuing our company’s 16 year relationship with BAFTA. Film is at the heart of what EE will offer customers, from streaming films from our film store over our 4G network to 2 for 1 cinema trips every Wednesday, and therefore our BAFTA partnership is ideal to help us communicate the EE brand values – said EE’s Brand Director, Spencer McHugh.

4G.co.uk see this as a high profile opportunity for EE to promote its 4GEE mobile phone service and its film store where customers can download HD films over a fast 4G mobile connection or via EE’s free Wi-Fi in conjunction with BT.
