The Nokia Lumia 635 comes with 4G for under £100.
While 4G phones are becoming more affordable in general there are still relatively few Windows Phone options, particularly at a low price, which is in part because there aren’t a huge number of Windows Phone handsets in general.
Even though the number is growing and one of the latest is the Nokia Lumia 635. In addition to being 4G equipped, the phone has a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB of RAM, which given how light on resources Windows Phone is should be enough to keep it running smoothly.
It has a 4.5 inch 480 x 854 IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 218 pixels per inch. It’s reasonable quality and it’s boosted by the addition of ClearBlack technology which makes the blacks truly black and improves the contrast in the process.
The Lumia 635 looks a lot like most other Nokia handsets, but it has a glossy, replaceable shell, so if you get bored of the colour you can at least swap it for another.
The Lumia 635 has 8GB of built in storage, plus a microSD card slot which supports cards of up to 128GB, so you won’t have to leave any media behind. It also has a 5 megapixel camera and can shoot 720p video at 30fps. Photos come out quite well, but be aware that there’s no dedicated camera button and no front facing snapper.
Rounding out the package the Lumia 635 comes with Windows Phone 8.1, so it has all the latest software and features, along with Nokia’s apps like HERE Maps and MixRadio.
The Nokia Lumia 635 is set to launch in the US in July with a global roll out to follow. It will be priced at $189 (£113). Alternatively if you can live without 4G and don’t want to wait that long Nokia is also launching the Lumia 630, which is essentially the same minus the 4G and set to launch in May for $159 (£95) for the single-SIM model or $169 (£101) for the dual-SIM version.
