Vodafone has announced a major network investment across Wales, with plans to bring 4G and 3G mobile coverage to more than 94% of the Welsh population, bringing stronger coverage both indoor and outdoors and upgrading more locations to superfast data speeds.

Already the network is rolling 4G out across Caerphilly, Cardiff, Connah’s Quay, Llanelli, Newport and Penarth, allowing thousands of residents, businesses and visitors to those areas to browse, stream and download faster, allowing them to more efficiently work, stay in touch and consume media when away from home or the office.

It’s a significant upgrade and it follows the rollout of 4G in Bridgend last month, which became the 400th community to receive 4G from Vodafone.

Jorge Fernandes, CTO for Vodafone UK, commented: “Our network improvements across Wales will ensure more people and businesses have the opportunity to thrive in today’s digital world, whilst the launch of 4G will give them the opportunity to access and share data faster than ever before. However, this is only the start as we continue to invest in our network and services across the country.”

The investment in Wales is all part of a larger £1 billion programme which Vodafone is spending on its services across the UK.

As well as bringing 4G to more parts of Wales, Vodafone has also announced that Loggersheads Country Park (Denbighshire), Brynesglwys (Denbighshire), Moylegrove (Pembrokeshire) and Corris (Gwynedd) are amongst the 100 communities from across the UK shortlisted to receive 3G coverage under its Rural Open Sure Signal programme, with the network having already installed 3G in the rural community of Pendine in Carmarthenshire.
