EE pay as you go sale offers up to 50% off on selected handsets

Smartphones are typically pricey, but they don’t have to be. There’s an ever growing number of high quality budget handsets and now many of them are on sale if bought from EE. You can get up to 50% off, the only catch is that you also have to buy a £20 top up, but assuming you plan to stick with EE that’s money you’d have to spend anyway.

The biggest bargain is perhaps the Alcatel Pop C1, which normally sells for an already very cheap price of £19.99, but currently can be had for just £9.99. So in other words you can get a smartphone for under £10 if you buy a £20 top up at the same time.

The phone is hardly high end, but it runs Android, has a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a dual-core processor, making it more than capable of all the basic things you’d expect from a smartphone.

The Nokia 108 has also been reduced from £19.99 to £9.99, but it’s arguably not quite such a great deal as it’s more of a feature phone than a smartphone.

Spend a little more though and you can get far better handsets. There’s the Lumia 435 for example, which normally sells for £49.99, but is currently half price at £24.99.

This has a 4.0-inch screen, a dual-core processor and runs Windows Phone 8.1, complete with features like Cortana. Better yet it’s likely to be upgraded to Windows 10 for phones when available.

An extra £10 can get you the Lumia 635, which has been reduced from £49.99 to £34.99 with a £20 top up. That has a 4.5-inch screen, a quad-core processor, a decent 5 megapixel camera and even supports 4G. Plus like the Lumia 435 it runs Windows Phone 8.1 and is likely to be upgraded to Windows 10 when available.

Or for the same money you could get the Huawei Ascend Y550, which has been reduced from £69.99. This has similar specs, with a 4.5-inch screen of its own, a quad-core processor, 4G support and a 5 megapixel camera, but instead of Windows Phone it runs Android 4.4.2.

The most expensive handset in the sale is the EE Kestrel, but you still get a lot for your money. This is a phone with an RRP of £99.99, but right now you can get it for half that at £49.99, albeit again with a £20 top up.

Its 4G of course and it has a sizeable 4.5-inch screen, as well as a quad-core processor and a 5 megapixel camera, while a microSD card slot means there’s no shortage of storage. The EE Kestrel was once the cheapest 4G phone on the market and while it’s not any more it’s still great value, especially at this sale price.

If you’ve got your eye on any of these you’d better hurry though, as the sale ends on the 5th of May.
