Apple iPhone 5S - New colours and a beefed up specification.

Apple has launched its latest and greatest iPhone, the Apple iPhone 5S. A lot rests on the iPhone 5S as it becomes the latest flagship model and Apple hopes it will be enough to keep its contenders at bay. New features ? yes we have new features and a new operating system

Apple iPhone 5S Look and Feel

As we all expected the iPhone 5S looks virtually the same as the iPhone 5. Over the years this has always been the case that the “S” models retain the same form and shape but inside it always gets a boost. This is the case again.

Yes it comes with the same shape and metal build and even the same size touch-screen display and resolution. However, there is a difference, and quite a noticeable one. The new iPhone 5S comes in stylish gold, silver or ‘space grey’. These colours will blend in nicely ensuring the iPhone 5S remains cool and trendy and not “too-loud”.

iPhone 5S Specification – 4G Connectivity Expanded

The first noticeable thing is that the iPhone 5S has been “beefed up” over the iPhone 5. It comes with the new Apple A7 64 bit processor and offers speeds twice as fast as the A6 processor in the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5C. This makes the iPhone 5S the iPhone to have.

Coupled with the new A7 processor comes the M7 processor whose function is to constantly track any motion registered by the phone. This is achieved using the on-board accelerometer, gyroscope or compass and allows the iPhone 5S to function as a dedicated fitness tracker.

Of course, the Apple iPhone 5C comes with 4G connectivity and unlike the iPhone 5 will be able to work on all four UK mobile operators' 4G networks.

Camera – iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S retains the same camera as the iPhone 5 - as expected. However, some changes have been made. The pixels are now larger which brings higher quality snaps and there is also a “True Tone” flash function for more natural colour reproductions.

The other change brings the ability to take slow motion video at 120 frames per second

Fingerprint Scanner – iPhone 5S – Touch ID

The iPhone 5S comes with a fingerprint sensor as we all expected. It’s built into the Home Button and called “Touch ID” and is surrounded by a stainless steel detection ring on which you lightly place your finger. No more need for passwords and no need to press the Home Button just placing your finger over the ring is enough.

Apple’s iPhone 5S Comes iOS 7

In terms of software features the great news is that iOS7 comes loaded on the iPhone 5C and 5S. This is a mighty inclusion and to get a handle on the coming advantages read here. So what the iPhone 5C misses out in terms of a physical update can likely be cancelled out by the improvements iOS 7 brings.

Battery life

The Apple iPhone 5S comes with additional performance in the battery life stakes. Both the talk time and standby times have been improved for the iPhone 5S over the iPhone 5.

Talk time has increased to 10 hours from 8 hours and standby time has been increased to 250 hours from 225 hours. These figures are relating to 3G usage.

Release date and price for the iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S is out on the 20th of September, so there’s only a week and a half to wait. Unsurprisingly when it does launch it will be pretty expensive, coming in at £549 for the 16GB model, £629 for the 32GB model or £709 for the 64GB model.
