Huawei Ascend P1 – 4G Phone

The Huawei Ascend P1 is a mid range handset that aims to deliver solid Android performance on a budget. It’s made of plastic as you’d expect from a mid range model, but the back has a glossy look that makes it stand out and it’s surprisingly slim at only 7.7mm.

Huawei Ascend P1

The Huawei Ascend P1 has a 4.3 inch 540 x 960 Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch. That’s not an amazing resolution but it’s not bad either and the Huawei Ascend P1 can deliver rich and vibrant colours.

It has a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, which is decidedly mid-range but perfectly good enough to provide lag free performance.

Surprisingly it only has 4GB of built in memory, which would get used up in no time if you plan to install a lot of apps or use the phone as a music player. However it also has a micro SD card slot which supports cards of up to 32GB, giving you a lot more potential storage to play with.

The Huawei Ascend P1 runs Android 4.2 and has a fairly good 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. It can also shoot 1080p video at 30fps and has a secondary 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calls and self portraits.

There’s a 1670 mAh battery keeping the phone going which isn’t huge but despite that the phone actually has pretty good battery life, easily lasting a day under moderate use and potentially stretching out to two days if you mostly only use it for calls and texting.

The Huawei Ascend P1 supports 3G, 4G and Bluetooth 3.0, but there’s no NFC support.

Huawei Ascend P1 Release Date & Price

The Huawei Ascend P1 is out now and available SIM free from around £200 which is roughly the same price as the Sony Xperia L.

Alternatively the Huawei Ascend P1 can be found on a 24 month 4G contract from EE for £41 per month with no upfront charge for the handset, unlimited minutes and texts and 750MB of data per month. On 3G it’s available for free from around £25 per month when taking out a 24 month contract. However none of the major operators seem to sell it directly, so you’ll have to go through a third party like Carphone Warehouse.
