The Apple iPad mini is the first in what will presumably be a new line of smaller tablets from Apple. Size aside its design is just as premium as the main iPad, with sleek curved edges and an aluminium back. At just 7.2mm thick it’s very thin as well.

Apple iPad mini
The Apple iPad mini has a 7.9 inch 768 x 1024 display with a pixel density of 162 pixels per inch. That makes it surprisingly low resolution compared to other Apple products. All in all it’s still a reasonable quality screen but it’s probably the biggest let down in an otherwise impressive device.
It has a 1 GHz dual-core Apple A5 processor and 512MB of RAM, which sounds like absolutely nothing but serves it quite well. With a choice of 16, 32 or 64GB models there’s the potential for a lot of storage but as there’s no micro SD card slot you’ll have to stump up for a 64GB model if you plan to keep a lot of apps, games and media on it.
The iPad mini has a 5 megapixel camera which can also shoot 1080p video at 30fps. Additionally it has a 1.2 megapixel front facing camera which can be used for FaceTime.
It has a 4490 mAh battery which delivers great battery life, allowing you to spend hours watching videos or browsing the web before it will need charging.
The iPad mini supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Ultrafast 3G and 4G LTE.
Apple iPad mini Release Date & Price
The iPad mini was released in November of 2012, so it’s available now and can be purchased in black or white from around £250, which puts it in competition with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.
Alternatively it’s available on 24 month 4G plans with EE from £25.99 per month. That plan includes 3GB of data each month but carries a one off fee of £99. Vodafone carries a 4G-ready version of the iPad mini for £26 per month on a 24 month contract, which includes 2GB of monthly data and an upfront fee of £49.
It’s also available on Ultrafast 3G from Three, with 24 month contracts starting at £19.99 a month. That will give you 5GB of data each month and includes an upfront fee of £49. All of these prices are for the 16GB model. The 32GB and 64GB models will set you back considerably more.
