The Sony Xperia Z was released in early 2013 and is Sony’s current flagship phone (at least until the Sony Xperia Z1 arrives). Its combination of a premium metal and glass build and high specs make it one of Sony’s best ever handsets. It’s also both dust and water resistant, allowing it to better withstand accidents than most of its competitors.

Sony Xperia Z Review
|Our Sony Xperia Z Review concluded “It has a clunky, big body, but the Sony Xperia Z looks great. The square edges are rather refreshing, and the glossy finish is an attractive design touch”.|

Sony Xperia Z
The Sony Xperia Z has a 5 inch 1080 x 1920 display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, making it a match, at least in terms of size and resolution, for the screen on the Samsung Galaxy S4.
It has a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, which has since been shown up a little by the likes of the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, but is still very high end and in general won’t be noticeably any slower than any other phone out there.
The Sony Xperia Z has 16GB of built in storage along with a micro SD card slot with support for cards of up to 64GB, so as long as you invest in a decent sized card, storage need never be a problem.
It runs Android 4.2.2 and has a 13.1 megapixel camera capable of taking high quality photos by phone camera standards. It also has a variety of scene modes such as HDR and panorama, can shoot 1080p video at 30fps and has a secondary 2.2 megapixel front facing camera.
The Sony Xperia Z has a 2330 mAh battery giving it solid battery life, which can be extended further by making use of the phones battery saving ‘Stamina’ mode. In terms of connectivity options it has support for Ultrafast 3G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.
Sony Xperia Z Release Date & Price
The Sony Xperia Z is out now and available SIM free in black, white or purple for around £380. That makes it slightly cheaper than the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One which could otherwise be considered its rivals.
On a 24 month 4G contract the Sony Xperia Z is available with no upfront cost from £42 on Vodafone or O2 or from £41 on EE.
A 24 month 3G contract for the Sony Xperia Z will set you back from around £29 per month with no upfront cost for the handset.
