Holy heck Apple, you caught us out here. 4G.co.uk was expecting the Apple iPad mini to be launched, of course, but the launch of the Apple iPad 4 was a complete surprise. Gosh, what a day for Apple and also EE ( Everything Everywhere – that’s owns Orange and T-Mobiile ) which can boast the addition of the 4G enabled iPad mini and the 4G enabled iPad 4 to its portfolio of 4G phones and tablets.

Yes the iPad 4 comes with 4G and a much faster processor. There seems to be just three main changes and these are that it is now 4G LTE enabled, sports a new A6X processing chip and includes the Lightning port we first saw on the iPhone 5.

The most significant improvement must be that the iPad 4 now comes as a 4G enabled version meaning that it will download web pages and files five times faster than any iPad on a 3G network. This is it’s major selling point. The only drawback for some could be that this is only possible if you buy one from EE, as they are the only mobile operator offering 4G in the UK.

The second must have improvement is the new A6X processor which offers twice the processing power of the A5X chip in the iPad 3.

A closer look at the iPad 4 specification follows :

Processing power – Apple A6X

Display Screen – 9.7-inch Retina screen 2048 x 1536 resolution at 264ppi

There are two versions of the iPad 4 and these are the Wi-Fi only version and the Wi-Fi / 3G / 4G version. The Wi-Fi version can be bought on the 2nd November and the 3G / 4G version will go on sale around Mid-November.

Pricing of the iPad 4 Wi-Fi version will be : £399 for 16GB, £479 for 32GB and £559 for the 64GB version. The 3G / 4G version comes in at £499 for 16GB, £579 for 32GB and £659 for 64GB. Prices are the same as the new iPad.
