Budget priced 4G phone – the HTC Desire 601.
HTC Desire 601 4G Phone Announced
HTC has announced a new mid range handset carrying the long running Desire name, but name aside the HTC Desire 601 has a lot in common with the popular HTC One range.
Its 1.4 GHz dual-core processor is pretty standard for a mid range phone, but it also supports 4G LTE, giving you superfast mobile internet without the extra cost of shelling out for a high end handset.
One of the features borrowed from the One line is dual front facing HTC BoomSound speakers, for loud, high quality audio without the need to plug in headphones.
The HTC Desire 601 has a decently large 4.5 inch qHD display, which should be plenty big enough to use for videos and games and combines with the impressive speakers for what HTC dubs a portable ‘home entertainment experience’.
The HTC Desire 601 also has a 5 megapixel camera. It doesn’t feature the Ultrapixels of the One line but it does have HTC Zoe, allowing you to capture loads of images and even a short video all in the space of a couple of seconds, to ensure that you never miss a moment. HTC Zoe also includes other features such as being able to remove objects from the shot or combine images to make sure that everyone is smiling in group shots.
The HTC Desire 601 also includes HTC’s BlinkFeed, which is a combined feed of all the news and social network updates you’re interested in right there on your home screen. It keeps you up to date without you ever having to launch a separate app.
Its plastic build ensures that the HTC Desire 601 will never quite compete with the HTC One Mini, but in many other ways it’s not too much worse and while pricing is yet to be confirmed it’s bound to be a lot cheaper.
Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation had this to say of the HTC Desire 601: “We are committed to offering the most innovative portfolio of products on the market. Our Desire family has become synonymous with affordable quality. Offering some of the most advanced capabilities of any smartphone, these phones truly represent premium quality in a more affordable price bracket.”
The HTC Desire 601 will start shipping to select markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa from October. There’s no word on exactly when or if it will hit the UK, but there’s always room in the market for more affordable 4G-ready smartphones, so there’s no reason to think it won’t make it to these shores.
