O2 has “badged” its 4G mobile service as O2 4G unlike EE and Vodafone who have branded their 4G offerings as 4GEE and Vodafone Red 4G – sometimes simple is best. O2 will initially launch 4G in 13 cities which include : London, Birmingham, Leeds, Bradford, Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Sheffield, Manchester and Edinburgh.
The O2 4G registration page confirms two pieces of vital information. Firstly, whether you are an O2 customer or not, you can register your details to receive the very latest 4G network launch details, 4G ready phone and pre-order release dates for 4G Ready smartphones like the iPhone 5S.
You can receive updates via email or text as the latest 4G ready phones become available to pre-order and breaking news for when 4G is launched in a new town or city.
Secondly, and of interest to O2 iPhone 5 owners who purchased their iPhone 5 between September and 31st March, there is an opportunity to upgrade to the new iPhone 5S ( or other smartphone ) at a discounted rate.
The discounted rate gives O2 iPhone 5 owners the chance to get 25% knocked off their existing line rental agreement. The same O2 iPhone 5 owners will also be offered £295 for their old iPhone 5 – via the O2 Recycling trade-in scheme when they upgrade to the new iPhone 5S.
The O2 4G pricing and plans have been agreed so the only uncertainty, if you don’t live and work in the 13 places where O2 will initially launch its 4G mobile network, is which towns and cities will receive 4G next and when ?
