We’re big fans of innovation, particularly when those innovations let you use your smartphone in exciting new ways. EE obviously feel the same, as they’ve launched a ‘Cash on Tap’ service, which allows you to use your smartphone to pay for goods and services. Check it out in action below.

EE have made it incredibly fast and easy to use, as all you need to do is tap your phone against a contactless card reader when you see the relevant symbol from the video, and as it’s an accepted payment method in around a quarter of a million places it should be a symbol you’ll see a lot.

It’s secure too, as you can only use it for transactions of up to £20 and you have to keep it topped up from your credit or debit card, which can only be done by entering a pin number.

As an extra incentive to give it a try, EE will even give you £5 when you first set up the app and you don’t even need to enter your card details to get that. But if you get on with it and decide you would like to top it up from your debit or credit card then EE will give you another £5 the first time you do that.

More and more contactless card readers are being rolled out all the time, so the number of places where you can use ‘Cash on Tap’ will increase too and you can even use it abroad. You do of course have to be an EE customer to make use of the ‘Cash on Tap’ app, but if you’re already on EE there’s nothing to lose and £10 to gain - so give it a try.
