BT has announced that it will be extending its agreement with Asda Mobile to include 4G connectivity.
Back in August 2014, UK mobile network EE (which is now owned by BT) signed a deal with Asda to provide the supermarket chain with its own Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service. This essentially enabled Asda to offer customers its own affordable mobile network, known as Asda Mobile.
Up to now, Asda Mobile customers have been limited to 3G connectivity. Under the terms of this new extension, which runs to 2020, Asda Mobile will be able to offer a significantly faster 4G service. This switch from 3G to 4G will happen some time this spring.
In addition to faster connectivity, the new agreement will also bring a fresh automatic debit facility to Asda Mobile. This will allow Pay As You Go customers to set up an alert to notify them when their credit is running low, and to automatically top up their credit by a chosen amount.
Richard Phillips, VP of Asda Mobile, said: “Asda is delighted to extend our partnership with EE as it allows us to provide faster speeds and easier top ups for our customers. Combined with our award winning customer service and excellent value, Asda Mobile becomes an even more compelling proposition for our customers.”
Besides providing Asda with a complete mobile infrastructure, BT also lays on a highly regarded customer service operation. Indeed, Asda Mobile recently earned a Recommended Provider rating from consumer choice publication Which?.
