Two of the countries leading Telecom countries have joined forces to bring a 4G LTE concept trial to its customers. BT Wholesale and Everything Everywhere ( EE ) are using their combined expertise and resources to bring a 4G concept trial to rural Cornwall and specifically to the area as shown above. The trial focuses in the South Newquay area of Cornwall and involves 100 mobile phone customers and 100 fixed telephone line customers in the St Newlyn East area of South Newquay. The 4G concept trial has already started and will run into 2012. The companies confirm that a laboratory trial has already been completed and this will now be validated by a field trial. The 4GEE trial a shared fixed and mobile platform field trial operating in 2 x 10MHz of test 800MHz spectrum and aims to prove the usefulness of 4G LTE in rural areas where typically customers experience lower speeds or worse no signal coverage or where no fixed broadband technology is available. The 4G trial covers an area of 25 square miles which has no or limited access to broadband services today. Customers will be equipped with 4G enabled mobile handsets and broadband dongles for the trial. Network and equipment support is provided by Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei.
