The LTE MAC Scheduler for base stations has come to fruition after being released by Roke Manor Research.  This advance will be used to improve and develop answers for new technology within the mobile broadband and communications sectors.  It will improve performance and service from networks and provide a high quality product for customers, as well as being cost effective for operators.

An increasing number of people are now using mobile broadband, and this has led to a growth of traffic within the communications networks.  This broadband expansion is mainly due to the growing use of mobile phones, netbooks, tablet devices and mobile broadband for laptops.  In order that this extra volume can be managed effectively, newer more advanced technologies have had to be developed.  4G is becoming more and more popular and within a few years should become mainstream.

Spectrum plays an important part in this development, as networks need to use air interfaces to make this happen.  The smart technology allows base station devices to develop their cell capacity and therefore minimise the costs per bit.  The development of Spectrum also reduces the amount of power needed, making the system more efficient and environmentally friendly.  Spectrum offers a faster connection speed and therefore a better internet experience for 4G phones.  More people are using a lot of data, following the popularity of watching videos online or downloading content so it is important for networks to expand with the growth in traffic.
