The conformance tests for the LTE enhanced protocol that is required by the device certification programmes of the industry are being accelerated by a partnership between Anite and Icera. These companies lead the way in multimode LTE products, and their collaboration on the conformance tests will bring together the cutting-edge innovations of the Anite Conformance Toolset and the software-defined modem from Icera.
Icera's state-of-the-art roadmap for air interfaces of the next generation is maintained because of the incorporation of a unique type of baseband technology that is software-defined. This currently supports 2G (GSM), 3G (HSPA) and 4G (LTE) standards and is ahead of most of the competition. ICERA was the first company to demonstrate a dual mode LTE/HSPA modem that ran on a data stick available commercially.
For its part, Anite provides test solutions for LTE enhanced (4G), 3G and 2G technologies and has a portfolio of protocol tests for LTE, approved by PTCRB and GCF, currently the largest of any company. Global handset and chipset companies use the Anite test solutions because of Anite's vast experience and expertise in this area.
Steve Allpress of Icera said that Icera, unlike other types of baseband technology, has the whole modem executed in software on a processor such as DXP(R). A great degree of flexibility is provided by this soft modem approach, placing it ahead of the competition on a consistent basis in areas such as modem innovation and multimode LTE ensures that products get to market quickly.
