In the fast-changing world of mobile data networks, the days of tower and power look to be coming to an end as miniaturization and portability become the Holy Grail of the 4G wireless operators, and the mobile areal stacks clustered on the pinnacles of tall buildings on every street will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history.
Small-cell deployment is about to experience an awesome growth according to Mobile Experts research figures, with a rise of more than 3000% in the deployment of small cells for 4G mobile data networks expected imminently.
Joe Madden of Mobile Experts, who initiated the extensive research into market trends in the supply of mobile data networks, is of the opinion that ‘Tower and Power' will fast become an antiquated concept, with mobile data migrating from public spaces to indoor environments as a result. DAS networks, picocells, and femtocells will see spectacular growth in the next stage of the seemingly never-ending mobile data network saga. Microcells and repeaters will also see increasing miniaturization and strength.
The new report compiled by Mobile Experts also indicates that relays will enter the market, contributing an extra dimension to the HetNet. 25 mobile operators were approached by Mobile Experts in an attempt to understand the worldwide pattern of regional preferences of the various operators of mobile data networks. Mr. Madden suggested that the trend was for most of the networks' assets to remain under the control of their operators, and, for example, by 2016 less than half of all deployed cells being owned by consumers.
