The OTA (Over-the-Air) carrier-grade platform from Giesecke & Devrient will now offer mobile device management and advanced SIM for handheld devices using LTE networks, the company has announced. A single, common platform that is used to manage subscriber equipment, provided to mobile operators by the burgeoning SmartTrust DP capabilities, is independent of the network being used.
Essential to the success of any OTA system are flexibility, reliability, and scalability of its messaging capabilities between server and SIM. SmartTrust DP provides two options here: IP supported by SIM and handset, and avoidance of OTA message delivery for a subscriber whilst not on the home network.
SmartTrust DP has a comprehensive set of management tools that enable it to reach any device connected to IP, with BIP support effectively extended beyond the platform's capabilities. The SIM can initiate and establish an IP session with the SmartTrust server module, which will also support SIM client polling. Pull and poll, in addition to the existing push functionality, establishes authentic client-server applications, that use an LTE network's enhanced bandwidth to greater effect.
The platform's functionality other than messaging includes user admin, logging, reports, storage, reception interfaces, and an external access API. Mobile operators using the SmartTrust DP modular architecture can use SmartRoam, SmartAct and SmartProvisioning for LTE enhanced network steering, managing LTE files, and managing data connectivity respectively.
4G mobile network efficiency is improved and operational costs reduced by using such an OTA platform to manage existing devices, according to Marianne Arosenius of G&D.
