Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact headed for EE

4th September 2015

The Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact may have found their perfect partner with EE, as the network plans to offer both of them. Not only will buyers get to make the most of them on EE’s superfast 4G service but they’ll also be able to use WiFi Calling, to keep in touch even when there’s no mobile signal.

The Sony Xperia Z5 has a 5.2-inch TRILUMINOS display which has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 for a pixel density of 428 pixels per inch and it’s bright enough to use even in direct sunlight.

It’s got flagship specs thanks to 3GB of RAM and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor which has four cores clocked at 2.0GHz and the other four running at 1.5GHz.

Its camera shouldn’t disappoint either, as it has a 23 megapixel rear snapper capable of shooting 4K video and a 5 megapixel front-facing one.

There’s plenty of storage too, with 32GB built in and support for microSD cards of up to 200GB, while the 2900 mAh battery promises up to 2 days of life, with Quick Charge 2.0 for speedy charging.

Sony’s even given its new flagship a fingerprint scanner, built into the side-mounted power button, making it faster than ever to secure your phone.

The design is familiar but premium, with a metal frame and a frosted glass back and in typical Sony fashion it’s IP68 certified dust and water resistant, allowing it to be submerged up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is almost identical, but with a smaller 4.6-inch 720 x 1280 display for a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch. Other differences include slightly less RAM at 2GB and a plastic frame rather than a metal one. It also has a marginally smaller 2700 mAh battery, but given the smaller screen size it should have similar life.

The phones are both available to pre-order now, with the Sony Xperia Z5 coming in black or gold and the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact coming in black. There are a range of tariffs available but prices start at around £46.99 per month plus £9.99 upfront for the Xperia Z5 and £41.99 per month plus £9.99 upfront for the Xperia Z5 Compact.

Delivery is likely to happen in October, but if you’re more interested in the super high end Sony Xperia Z5 Premium EE has confirmed it plans to stock that when available as well, though that’s not expected to land until November.
