Samsung Galaxy S3 – Worlds Best Selling Smartphone

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has just been crowned the best selling smartphone in the world for the third-quarter of 2012 ( August / September / October ). The Samsung Galaxy S3 achieved sales of 18 Million units compared to 5.4 million in the second quarter. The Samsung Galaxy S3 knocked the Apple iPhone 4S off the top spot by selling 1.8 Million units more. The iPhone 5 sales kicked in at 5 Million and claimed third spot.

The new figures came via Strategy Analytics who say that Samsung’s success is attributed to it’s large touchscreen, it’s world-wide extensive distribution agreements and excellent operator subsidies.

Samsung recently reported that the Samsung Galaxy S3 sold 30 million units in it’s first five months since launch and with a rumour of the Samsung Galaxy S4 arriving in February next year, we here at can see nothing but more sales for Samsung. There is also the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 which has just been launched and will boost sales further.

Apple are also in a good position with the recent arrival of the iPhone 5 and could not say whether Samsung will rule the smartphone roost for the final quarter of 2012 or whether Apple will overtake Samsung once again. As seen in the quote below, Strategy Analytics see Apple ruling the roost.

Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “Samsung’s Galaxy S3 has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators across North America, Europe and Asia. However, the Galaxy S3’s position as the world’s best-selling smartphone model is likely to be short-lived. The Apple iPhone 5 has gotten off to a solid start already with an estimated 6.0 million units shipped globally during Q3 2012. We expect the new iPhone 5 to out-ship Samsung’s Galaxy S3 in the coming fourth quarter of 2012 and Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world’s most popular smartphone model.”samsung-galaxy-s3-worlds-best-selling-smartphone-1
