HTC has suddenly decided it’s serious about cameras, as not only has it announced the HTC Desire Eye but also the HTC RE, which is a stand-alone camera.
But it’s not just any old camera, it’s designed to easily be held and used in one hand with one button operation and while there’s no viewfinder its 146 degree wide-angle lens ensures you’ll never miss anything from a shot.
Its 16 megapixel sensor can both take photos and shoot HD videos and it’s waterproof to one metre, plus there are a range of accessories to let you strap it your handlebars or your backpack.
As for actually looking at the photos and videos that’s simple too, as it streams them to your phone, from which you can then edit them, upload them and share them. That bit is where EE really comes in to play, because when paired with a 4GEE smartphone you’ll be able to quickly upload and share content almost anywhere.
With other networks 4G coverage is more limited so you might have to endure a slow 3G connection or wait till you can find some Wi-Fi.
That’s why it’s good to know that EE is stocking the HTC RE, though you could always buy it elsewhere and pair it with an EE smartphone anyway.
Peter Frolund, VP of UK and Nordics for HTC, said: “The RE by HTC is uniquely designed to be easy and fun to use whilst capturing your photos and HD quality video on the move and makes it even easier to share your experiences with family and friends, when paired with any smartphone on EE’s superfast 4G network”
EE has confirmed that the simple shooter will be available from early November for £169.99 and that it’s compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.
