Vodafone 4G Rollout Gathers Pace

4G might have once seemed like a one horse race, with EE getting a massive head start, but while EE is still undeniably in the lead the other networks are starting to gain ground.

Vodafone has just released an update on its 4G progress and revealed that currently 233 large towns and cities now either have 4G or Vodafone is starting to roll it out for them and that figure doesn’t include smaller communities like the West Berkshire village of Great Shefford, which is one place which already enjoys 4G from Vodafone.

Vodafone has also announced that Swindon will be getting 4G access from May the 22nd, while a roll out has begun in York, Slough, Epping and the areas surrounding Edinburgh and Glasgow. Other locations which either recently had 4G switched on or will soon include Brighton, Hove and Hastings in East and West Sussex, Oldham, Swinton and Stockport in greater Manchester, Watford, Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, Tower Hamlets, Camden and Hackney in inner London, Maidstone, Folkstone and Tunbridge Wells in Kent, Staines, Epsom and Ewell in Surrey, Jarrow, Gateshead and Sunderland in Tyne & Wear, West Bromwich, Stourbridge and Dudley in the West Midlands and Huddersfield, Pontefract and Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

So if you live in any of those places and have a 4G device on a Vodafone Red 4G tariff then you’ll soon be able to access 4G speeds.

The rest of the UK isn’t likely to be kept waiting too long either, as Vodafone is aiming to bring 4G coverage to 98% of the UK by the 2015, which given the current rate of roll out should be perfectly doable.
