Virgin Mobile has been promising to launch 4G plans for a long time, and now it’s finally happened, but while the network is late to the party it’s packed in some useful free extras to help it stand out.
All of its new 4G plans will allow customers to use WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger without eating into their data allowance – which means you can keep on communicating online even if you run out of data.
But perhaps even more excitingly, the network will rollover any unused data to the next month, so none of it goes to waste. So if for example you have a 1GB tariff but only use 500MB one month, the next month you’ll have 1.5GB available.
Of course, these extras would be no good if the core plans weren’t worth having, but thankfully Virgin Mobile has launched a competitive selection.
Its SIM-only 4G contracts can be cancelled or changed at 30 days notice, so they’re flexible, but they’re also good value. You can see how they stack up in the table below.
Virgin Mobile has also launched ‘Freestyle’ 4G plans, which include a handset. These have a minimum term of 24 months and vary in price depending on the handset chosen, but the cost of the handset is placed on top of the standard SIM-only prices, highlighted above.
Once you’ve paid the handset off you’ll be moved to the SIM-only prices if you don’t upgrade, and you have the option to pay the handset element off early, for an early upgrade.
Virgin Mobile runs on EE’s network, meaning it has over 97% UK population coverage with 4G – which is more than O2, Vodafone or Three.
And as a Virgin Mobile customer you’ll also be able to benefit from Virgin Media’s extensive network of 250,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK, many of which can be found at airports, cafes and London Underground stations.
