Upton-upon-Severn is set to get 4G from EE

4th December 2015

EE hits 9.3 million 4G customers and 87% population coverage

Upton-upon-Severn in Worcestershire is severely lacking for mobile coverage, as currently no networks offer 4G in the area and even 3G coverage is variable.

But that’s all about to change, as EE has confirmed that it will be bringing 4G to Upton-upon-Severn in the coming months.

In a statement to the Malvern Observer, an EE spokesperson said: “Mobile coverage in the UK has never been better. We’re investing £1.5billion in our network and infrastructure to further improve rural coverage for basic voice calls and we’ll be bringing 4G coverage to areas like Upton in the coming months, all as part of the industry’s £5 billion investment pledge which is being made without Government support.”

The news follows a campaign by local MP Harriett Baldwin to get greater mobile coverage in the area. Mrs Baldwin said:

“I am pleased that one of the mobile phone operators that I contacted has been able to offer good news and I look forward to hearing more detail on this roll-out in due course.”

“I haven’t yet heard of any other plans to upgrade signals so I would urge EE users to let me know when they get access to 4G in Upton and to encourage local people to then switch to that network.

“Rather like energy providers or banks, large organisations like Vodafone, 02 and Three only tend to get the message when they start losing customers so maybe this will nudge other operators to take this issue seriously.”

It’s no wonder EE is the first network to upgrade its infrastructure in Upton-upon-Severn, as it has more 4G coverage than any other player in the UK, with over 93% population coverage already and an aim to reach 98% by the end of the year.

The upgrade in Upton-upon-Severn will allow residents to work from their phones and tablets when away from home or the office. They’ll also be able to stream and download large apps, games, videos and songs, make video calls and more, so 4G really is a massive upgrade.
