New 4G Operator To Enter the Market

20th November 2012

EE ( which owns Orange and T-Mobile ) has already launched its 4G network ahead of Vodafone, O2 and Three and now a new 4G operator will offer 4G mobile phone services within the near future.

The new mobile operator called The People’s Operator ( TPO ) seems to see itself as the “peoples champion” whilst donating 25% of all profits to deserving charities ( e.g. NSPCC and Childline).

Customers can support TPO and it’s charities by taking up a TPO SIM offer for their mobile phone. Currently, the company is offering only SIM only deals on Pay As You Go ( PAYG ) but will offer mobile phone monthly contract deals in the first quarter of 2013.

The People’s Operator is actually what's called a Mobile Virtual Network Operator ( MVNO ) which means they simply “piggy-back” on EE’s network to offer virtual services using EE’s mobile phone network. TPO also confirmed that it would offer 4G mobile services in the near future. This is a bit of a shocker, as TPO could end up offering 4G services before Vodafone, O2 and Three. 4G.co.uk would imagine this would need approval from Ofcom though before TPO could offer 4G mobile services as an MVNO.

A big plus point for consumers looking for value for money whilst effectively using EE’s mobile network is the pricing of TPO’s services as shown above. Note : services are only currently available via the TPO website.

PAYG customers will pay 7.5p for texts, 12.5p per voice call minute, mobile data costs 12.5p per megabyte ( MB ) and voice calls and texts to other TPO users are free.

4G.co.uk are thinking is this a cheap way to get access to EE’s 4G network with speeds up to five times faster than 3G via TPO? It could well be based on the pricing model above so we will need to wait to see TPO’s 4G pricing structure in the near future.4G Operators
